The Kalkaska Conservation District and the Kalkaska County Library present: The Kalkaska Conservation Series!

Join us on Wednesdays in April at 5:30pm at the Kalkaska County Library to learn about a different aspect of out beautiful natural environment here in Northern Michigan! All gatherings are free to attend and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

On Wednesday, April 19, join us for “Using Nature to Tie Dye” with Julie Hurd.

Plants, fungi, minerals, and insects were some of the first elements used to dye clothing and textiles of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Before the discovery of synthetic dyes in the mid-nineteenth century, our colors were derived from naturally occurring sources. We’ll learn about natural dyes and many of the colors found in the nature of northern Michigan!
