The Michigan Hemingway Society, an organization focusing on the Michigan influence in American author Ernest Hemingway’s work, will be installing a commemorative plaque to memorialize Hemingway’s travels by train and foot throughout the Kalkaska area in the summer of 1916, when he was a young man.

Hemingway fished and hiked the Boardman and Rapid Rivers, and two of his short stories, The Light of the World and The Battler, are set in the Kalkaska area.

The event will be held Saturday, October 12th, 9:00am, at the Kalkaska County Historical Museum, Railroad Square, in downtown Kalkaska, in tandem with the Northern Arrow Fall Color Tour, hosted by the Steam Railroading Institute and the Village of Kalkaska Downtown Development Authority.
